# Update Theme

> Theme updates guarantee compatibility with the latest Ghost version, enhance performance, and address minor bugs. Therefore, it is crucial to use the most recent version of the theme.

  Updating the theme may overwrite any custom changes you’ve made. If your theme files haven’t been modified, it’s safe to update — but if you’ve added custom code, proceed carefully to avoid losing your edits.

## **Updating a theme**

1. **Download the latest version of Skalven** from your purchased files, then extract the archive on your computer.
2. In your **Ghost Admin**, click the ⚙️ **Settings** icon and open the **Design & Branding** section.
3. On the bottom-right of the screen, click **Change theme**.\
   Then click the **Upload theme** button in the top-right corner.
4. Upload the new version of Skalven — for example:\
   **<u>skalven.zip</u>**\
   (Do *not* upload the outer package; only upload the theme ZIP inside the downloaded folder.)
5. After the upload is complete, click **Activate** to switch to the new version of the theme.

🎉 **Your Skalven theme is now successfully updated!**
